BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acids, referred to in the literature as a pentadecapeptide. Its sequence was derived from a larger protein found in human gastric juice, commonly called body protection compound. Researchers first described the fragment in the early 1990s and named it after the parent protein plus a numeric identifier. The peptide does not correspond to a single marketed medicine; it is primarily a laboratory research material. Suppliers distribute it as a lyophilized powder intended for experimental use.
Published work on BPC-157 spans several decades and covers a wide range of experimental models. Much of the early literature reports outcomes in animal studies involving induced injury to the gastrointestinal tract, tendons, and other tissues. The volume of preclinical reports is large, while controlled human trials remain scarce. This imbalance is a recurring point of discussion, because animal findings do not automatically translate into human effects. Reviews often note that study designs differ substantially across laboratories.
Human data are far more limited than animal data. A small number of clinical reports exist, generally with few participants and without the randomization or blinding expected in later-phase trials. No large, independently replicated human trial has appeared in the indexed peer-reviewed literature. Statements about effects in people therefore rest on extrapolation from animal work rather than on direct evidence, and the strength of that extrapolation remains an open question rather than a settled matter.
Proposed mechanisms include interaction with the nitric oxide system, modulation of growth factor signaling, and effects on blood vessel formation. None of these has been established as the primary mode of action, and some proposed pathways rest on indirect measurements. Whether the reported effects depend on a specific receptor has not been determined. Stability in gastric acid, unusual for a peptide of this size, is also reported in animal work, but the reason for it is not firmly established.

Material of this kind is sold for laboratory research, and labels typically state that it is not intended for human or veterinary use. In many countries it is not an approved medicine, and sports antidoping rules place it among prohibited non-approved substances. Buyers commonly review a certificate of analysis, an independent test report, and the declared storage conditions. Batch-to-batch variation in purity and in counterion content is possible, and how much that variation affects experimental outcomes remains an open question.
Lyophilized peptide is normally kept at minus twenty degrees Celsius or colder, away from light and moisture. Powder held under those conditions is widely treated as stable for long periods, although published stability studies for this exact sequence are sparse and often come from suppliers rather than independent laboratories. Once dissolved, solutions are generally handled cold and used within a short window, because peptide bonds can hydrolyze over time. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are usually avoided to limit losses, and exact shelf-life figures depend on the buffer and the concentration involved.
Purity is ordinarily reported as a percentage from reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, where the area of the main peak is compared with the total peak area. Identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry, since the measured mass can be checked against the value calculated from the sequence. Some certificates also include amino acid analysis or sequence confirmation by tandem mass spectrometry. A single purity number does not describe the profile of related impurities, so the underlying chromatogram and spectrum usually carry more information than the headline figure.
Common synonyms in catalogs include pentadecapeptide BPC 157, BPC157, and the full sequence name. A CAS registry number in the 137525-51-0 range is frequently listed, though the assignment should be verified against the supplier certificate of analysis. The name itself is not a pharmacopoeial designation, and there is no standardized international nonproprietary name. Distinguishing genuine material from related fragments generally requires mass spectrometry, since several truncated sequences share similar chromatographic behavior.
BPC-157 is a synthetic pentadecapeptide whose sequence is commonly given as Gly-Glu-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Ala-Asp-Asp-Ala-Gly-Leu-Val. It is described in the literature as a fragment of a larger protein found in human gastric juice, referred to as body protection compound. The peptide was first characterized in the early 1990s by a research group in Zagreb, Croatia. Its molecular formula is C62H98N16O22 and its monoisotopic mass is approximately 1419 daltons.
== Clinical relevance == Using MFAP4-deficient mouse models, studies have shown roles for MFAP4 in neointima formation and asthma. Moreover, it has recently been shown that the glycosylation of MFAP4 is raised in the aortic extracellular matrix of Marfan syndrome patients using proteomics and gene expression levels of MFAP4 correlate with alterations in extracellular matrix genes within human aortic vascular smooth muscle cells.
Levomethadone, sold under the brand name L-Polamidon among others, is a synthetic opioid analgesic and antitussive which is marketed in Europe and is used for pain management and in opioid maintenance therapy. In addition to being used as a pharmaceutical drug itself, levomethadone is also the main therapeutic component of methadone, which is a racemic mixture of levomethadone (R-methadone) and dextromethadone (S-methadone). Levomethadone is used for narcotic maintenance in place of, or in some cases alongside as an alternative, to racemic methadone, owing to concern that the cardiotoxic and QT-prolonging action of racemic methadone might be primarily caused by dextromethadone.
=== Blood === Hematologic effects, such as neutropenia, agranulocytosis and other blood dyscrasias, have occurred during therapy with ACE inhibitors, especially in people with additional risk factors.
=== Cognitive function === In many respects, nicotine acts on the nervous system in a similar way to caffeine. Some writings have stated that smoking can also increase mental concentration; one study documents a significantly better performance on the Advanced Raven Progressive Matrices test after smoking. However, long-term usage of tobacco can create cognitive dysfunction. There seems to be an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD), although "case–control and cohort studies produce conflicting results as to the direction of the association between smoking and AD". Smoking has been found to contribute to dementia and cognitive decline, reduced memory and cognitive abilities in adolescents, and brain shrinkage (cerebral atrophy).

== History == Polymer Char was founded by B. Monrabal in 1992 in the Valencia Technology Park, in Spain, being registered with the name of Polymer Characterization, S.A. Its initial goal was to develop a commercial Crystallization Analysis Fractionation (CRYSTAF) instrument based on technology developed by Monrabal at Dow Chemical Company laboratories in the Netherlands to measure chemical composition distribution in semicrystalline polymers. A CRYSTAF prototype was presented at Pittcon in 1994. The first product was acquired in 1995 by a petrochemical company in South Korea. The company has also developed techniques and instruments for polymer characterization, and more specifically, for polyolefin (polyethylene and polypropylene) characterization. Polymer Char's technology is present in the petrochemical and research and development industries in over 20 countries in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

In Hinduism, the Upanishads say that the nature of the higher self (Brahman), in essence, is bliss (ānanda), which the self in each being (Atman) experiences during dreamless deep sleep but remains unconscious of, consciously experiencing it during sensual activity. The Upanishads say that in humans, just as eyes correspond to the experience of sight, nose with smell, ears with sound, and tongue with taste, the genitals correspond to "bliss, delight and procreation". The Brihadaranyaka Upanishad says that in humans, genitals are the "single locus of pleasure (ānanda)". In Sanskrit literature, the penis is called Upastha ("that which stands up") and is traditionally considered a "source of great power or vitality (ojas)." In Yoga physiology, the penis corresponds with svadhishthana chakra, and channels the flow of nadis, which enable higher sensations and consciousness. Consequently, circumcision, or even an interference with a tight foreskin, is strictly forbidden in Hindu traditions.
=== Relay florist === A relay service, often referred to as a relay florist, is a website where a person or organization procures a purchase order between a consumer and itself instead of the order being placed directly with a local florist in the delivery area. The relay service collects payment for the order; however, as the relay service normally cannot fulfill the order itself unless the delivery is local to the location of the relay service, it relays the order and payment to a local florist in the delivery area, minus a commission.

== 2023 trial == Police arrested Letby on 3 July 2018 on suspicion of eight counts of murder and six counts of attempted murder, and searched her home. Officers were also seen at her parents' property the same day. Following her arrest, detectives began reviewing her entire nursing career, including her time at Liverpool Women's Hospital. She was bailed on 6 July, rearrested in June 2019, and bailed again shortly afterwards. Letby was arrested for a third time in November 2020 and was remanded in custody. She denied all allegations, attributing the collapses to issues such as staffing levels and hygiene. Letby's trial opened at Manchester Crown Court on 4 October 2022 before Mr Justice Goss. She pleaded not guilty to seven counts of murder and 15 counts of attempted murder. The infants were anonymised as Baby A to Baby Q. Reporting restrictions also protected the identities of nine colleagues who gave evidence. Two years before the trial, Mrs Justice Steyn had ordered that the surviving infants could not be identified until adulthood. Several adult witnesses were also granted anonymity, which the court considered necessary to secure their testimony.
=== Degradation === In mammals, norepinephrine is rapidly degraded to various metabolites. The initial step in the breakdown can be catalyzed by either of the enzymes monoamine oxidase (mainly monoamine oxidase A) or COMT. From there, the breakdown can proceed by a variety of pathways. The principal end products are either Vanillylmandelic acid or a conjugated form of MHPG, both of which are thought to be biologically inactive and are excreted in the urine.
=== Phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors === Many men who have PE also suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED). Treatment for these patients should consider the drug–drug interaction between dapoxetine and PDE5 inhibitors such as tadalafil (Cialis) or sildenafil (Viagra). In Dresser study (2006), plasma concentration of 24 subjects was obtained. Half of the sample pool were treated with dapoxetine 60 mg plus tadalafil 20 mg; the other half were treated with dapoxetine 60 mg plus sildenafil 100 mg. These plasma samples were then analyzed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The results showed that dapoxetine does not alter the pharmacokinetics of tadalafil or sildenafil.
=== Lifespan === The lifespan of a starfish varies considerably among species. For example, Leptasterias hexactis reaches sexual maturity at 20 g (0.7 oz) in two years and lives for about ten years. Pisaster ochraceus matures at 70–90 g (2.5–3.2 oz) in five years and has a maximum recorded lifespan of 34 years.
EDE was available only in combination EB and TEBH. The combination was available in two different dose forms, one for menopausal hormone therapy (brand names Climacteron, Amenose) and the other for lactation suppression (brand names Lactimex, Lactostat). Climacteron and Amenose contained 1.0 mg EB, 7.5 mg EDE, and 150 mg TEBH (69 mg free testosterone) and was given by repeated intramuscular injection at regular intervals. Lactimex and Lactostat contained 6 mg EB, 15 mg EDE, and 300 mg TEBH in 2 mL of corn oil and was administered as a single intramuscular injection after childbirth or during breastfeeding.

It is a synthetic peptide of fifteen amino acids whose sequence matches a fragment of a protein found in human gastric juice. It is studied mainly in laboratory and animal research rather than as an approved medicine.
The letters abbreviate body protection compound, the name given to the parent protein isolated from gastric juice. The number is an identifier attached to the specific fragment, not a dose or a description of a chemical property.
The sequence corresponds to a segment of an endogenous gastric protein, but the isolated fifteen-amino-acid peptide is a synthetic construct. Whether the free fragment circulates in humans at measurable levels is not clearly established in the published literature.
It is not authorized as a medicine in the United States or the European Union. Regulatory treatment varies by jurisdiction, and in several places it is handled as a research chemical. Therapeutic claims are not supported by large human trials.
